Information

Walnut is a hand-held device, designed to comply with the concept of Interactive Materiality. By mechanically mimicking the properties of non-Newtonian fluids, we tended to express the symbolic notion of 'hardened softness' through tangible product interaction. We created our own material by melting lasercutted mathematical equations of Vivak into Lycra fabrics and added sensors and actuators to make it interactive and allow it to autonomously change shape. Walnut responds to intensity of touch and withdrawal and actuates its top layer accordingly.
